Uniview Intermediate Training Outline
Uniview Intermediate Training Outline
I. Introduction
Welcome & Housekeeping
Greetings and introductions by
Sal Visone from DWG
Instructions for questions via chat and a Q&A session
Training Scope & Objectives
Purpose:
Provide installers with in‑depth knowledge and actionable techniques to configure, optimize, and maintain Uniview surveillance systems.
Objectives:
Advanced NVR Features and Configurations
IP Camera Selection and Optimization
Mastering PTZ Capabilities
Troubleshooting and Maintenance Best Practices
II. Advanced NVR Features and Configurations
RAID Configurations
Definition: Redundant Array of Independent Discs for data redundancy.
Benefits: Prevents loss of footage from a single drive failure.
How to Enable:
Navigate to Setup > Storage > Array
Verify the NVR specifications to ensure RAID support.
Edge Storage
Definition: Recording video directly to a camera’s onboard SD card.
Benefits: Additional redundancy, reduced bandwidth, cost savings, and faster access.
Features:
Support for large SD cards (up to 512GB, model‑dependent)
Automatic Network Recovery (syncs footage after disconnections)
Decoding Performance
Definition: The NVR’s ability to process and display video streams.
Key Factors: Resolution, frame rate, and compression.
Considerations: Balancing quality versus the number of simultaneous streams.
Multiple Streaming Profiles
Stream Types:
Mainstream: Full resolution (for recording and detailed monitoring)
Substream: Lower resolution (ideal for remote viewing)
Third Stream: Available on select models
Configuration: Adjust via the web interface (Setup > Camera > Encoding) and using Easy Station software.
Benefits: Optimizes network usage and recording quality.
Alarm and Event Management
Advanced Triggers: Intrusion detection, crossline detection, audio detection, tampering detection, smart intrusion prevention, and more.
Configuration:
Define detection areas on the live view
Set trigger actions (buzzer, push alarm, IP speaker output, relay/siren activation, recording, preset activation, email notifications)
Best Practices: Limit the number of simultaneous events to avoid overload and configure events from the NVR side for proper synchronization.
III. IP Camera Selection and Optimization
Understanding Image Sensors & Low Light Performance
Basics: Converts light into an electronic signal to form an image.
Impact: Larger sensors capture more light for brighter images, less noise, and better color reproduction.
Lens Types
Fixed Lenses: Provide a preset field of view; cost‑effective with simple installation.
Motorized Varifocal (Verifocal) Lenses: Offer adjustable focal length with optical zoom capabilities.
Optimizing Image Settings
Resolution: Use higher resolution for critical areas and lower resolution (substream) for general monitoring.
Encoding: Adjust bit rates, frame rates, and enable Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) when needed.
Balancing: Trade-offs between image quality, storage usage, and bandwidth consumption.
Compression Formats
H.264: Standard and widely compatible.
H.265: More efficient compression (reduces storage needs roughly by half).
Ultra265: Maximizes storage and bandwidth savings, especially for high‑resolution cameras.
Utilizing Smart Features & Analytics
Line Crossing Detection: Draw virtual lines that trigger alerts when crossed.
Intrusion Detection: Set up predefined detection zones.
People Counting: Use trigger lines to count foot traffic.
Benefits: Proactive monitoring, data‑driven insights, and reduced false alarms.
IV. Managing Bandwidth and Video Storage
Video Compression & Efficiency
Comparison of H.264, H.265, and Ultra265 in terms of file size and image quality.
Optimizing Remote Viewing
Configure substream settings to reduce bandwidth load.
Utilize Easy Station and Uniview Link for efficient live view management.
Recording Schedule & Storage Management
Recording Modes: Continuous vs. event‑based recording.
Storage Planning: Verify disk space, set overwrite priorities, and calculate retention days.
V. Mastering PTZ Capabilities
Advanced PTZ Controls
Access Methods: Via Easy Station, the web interface, and mobile apps.
Basic Controls: Pan, tilt, zoom, focus, and speed adjustment.
Presets, Patrols, and Auto‑guard
Presets: Save specific camera positions for quick recall.
Patrol Routes: Create automated sequences that move the PTZ through multiple presets.
Auto‑guard: Configure the camera to return to a home position after inactivity.
Autotracking
Definition: Automatically follow moving objects within the camera’s field of view.
Configuration: Enable auto tracking, set tracking timeout and auto zoom; can be linked to event triggers.
Third‑Party Integration
Integrate PTZ cameras with access control and alarm systems.
Examples: Visual verification at entrances and motion‑activated alarms.
Additional Advanced Features
Panoramic Linkage: Brief overview – ties fixed-lens triggers to PTZ auto‑tracking (detailed configuration in expert-level training).
VI. Troubleshooting and Maintenance Best Practices
Addressing Network Issues
Common Problems: Camera dropouts, IP conflicts, latency, and connectivity issues.
Troubleshooting Tools: Use Command Prompt (ping, ipconfig, ARP‑scan), verify cables, and check power supply (UPS recommended).
Resolving Video Loss and Image Problems
Issues: Pixelation, blurred images, and black screens.
Solutions: Adjust bit rates and streaming profiles, check focus, clean lenses, and understand the differences between digital and optical zoom.
NVR Playback Issues
Hard Drive Health: Run SMART tests, check HDD connections, and replace failing drives if necessary.
Recording Settings: Verify the recording schedule (continuous vs. event‑based) and ensure sufficient storage space.
Firmware Updates
Importance: Provides security enhancements, performance improvements, bug fixes, and ensures compatibility.
Methods: Use Cloud upgrade options or manually upload firmware files.
Utilizing Software Tools
Monitoring & Troubleshooting: Use Easy Station and Uniview Link for adjustments and to review logs (e.g., alarm events, connectivity issues).
